Freedom of the Fall by Laura Ward

...

it was just a whisper

at the seasons end

words traveling on a gust

some things you cannot mend

once so soft and supple

now hardened by the winds

my heart must seek new waters

this ice holds all our sins

much too soon the penchant

for sweetness melts away

but still we hang on tightly

to wither and fray

it’s fear that we may break

or even lose it all

but what we cannot reckon

is the freedom of the fall
